Digital Boost’s latest advertising campaign rather cheekily called out Alex Manning’s Unity Group Builders – for not having a website! Now Alex is on his journey to get one. The ‘make the internet work for you’ ad campaign launched in July this year with the goal of encouraging more Kiwi small businesses to take advantage of the free digital skills training and support available at www.digitalboost.co.nz Auckland advertising agency Motion Sickness developed the campaign, which features a number of real Kiwi businesses on their digital journey.

Complimentary to this, the campaign also included a series of bespoke billboards – taking the message to ‘digitally reclusive’ small businesses. Since small business owners are often time-poor and hard to reach, we wanted to grab their attention in a direct way. We did this by activating outdoor placements with a message specifically for them, right outside their workplace and during their morning commute, and next to existing ads. Unity Group Builders Managing Director Alex Manning was made aware of the billboard on Auckland’s Tamaki drive when it first launched in early July – directly calling out his building business for not having a website. He has enjoyed the attention it has generated for his business and the journey he is now on to develop his digital presence. A small business of five, Unity Group Builders specialise in residential renovations, new builds or home building needs. His business is nearly one year old and to date, Alex has relied on word of mouth and although growing with referrals Alex is fully aware that a website can provide the digital presence he needs to expand his business, gain visibility and attract new customers. Alex is happy to be called out on his lack of digital presence and is doing something about it. “I have signed up to Digital Boost and I am watching the website and construction-specific information that is really relevant to what I am trying to achieve online”, says Alex.

There is a whole section dedicated to websites. Providing businesses with the opportunity to learn how to set one up or improve the one they already have at their own pace Explore eCommerce, website names, online ordering, content creation and how to optimise a business’s web presence. Alex’s goal is to provide detailed information on his future website about the building services offered, as well as detailed information, for example – on load-bearing walls and the value they can add to a house. He will include essential elements such as an online enquiry from and an auto email response. The Digital Boost online learning platform is available for free at www.digitalboost.co.nz and it’s already making a difference to over 51,000 small business owners and employees.
