2 Degrees Mobile Limited
In 2009, 2degrees burst into the market-determined to give Kiwis a better choice of telco and a fairer deal. From day one they challenged the status quo by halving the price of calls and texts overnight. Since then, they’ve invested more than $1b in both their broadband offering and in creating their own mobile network, which covers 98.5% of the places that New Zealanders live and work.
They acquired a NZ-based internet service provider in 2015 to offer ADSL, VDSL and UFB services, supported by award-winning, NZ-based customer care.
2degrees is committed to offering the following support as part of the Digital Boost Alliance initiative:
Broadband scholarships with Variety The Children’s Charity
Since 2019 they’ve worked with Variety to help connect Kiwi families to the internet, to help children with their schoolwork. The scholarships started as a small pilot in Auckland’s Glen Innes, for families without any internet connection. The following year the programme expanded to include families in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and the scope was widened to include families for whom paying the internet bill causes financial hardship.
In 2020 they began a partnership with Indigo for both Manaaki and Chooice. For Manaaki, they support their efforts to connect small business owners both digitally, and with the experts who can help them run their business better. This year, they are supporting a host of new initiatives soon to be announced.
2degrees have been working closely with the Ministry of Education to connect students without internet for distance learning while supporting the household to achieve equitable digital access. The service ensures the household has a safe internet connection supported by their 100% kiwi call centre.
